We’re looking to drive Germany - Europe’s strongest industrial nation - away from traditional and toward digital manufacturing. Today we’re announcing our launch into the DACH market, opening new offices in Berlin.

Following our launch into the French market in December, backed by Tony Fadell (iPod inventor, iPhone co-inventor, Nest founder, and Future Shape principal), and a recent round of $20 million Series C funding, we’re set to keep growing from our Amsterdam-based headquarters. Today’s launch aims to accelerate innovation in German manufacturing through Protolabs Network's online manufacturing platform.

Last week we hosted our DACH launch event at MotionLab, Berlin

Despite its impressive industrial production marked at more than $2 trillion, Germany has recently experienced a decline in manufacturing output. Concerns over pricing, efficiency and scalability continue to challenge traditional manufacturing approaches, especially when competing nations transition faster as they embrace the rise of industry 4.0 and IoT.

The new era of digital manufacturing opens huge opportunities up to the industry, but only a small percentage of German manufacturing companies have leveraged the power of online, on demand and distributed manufacturing. Despite being Europe’s industrial powerhouse, Germany only ranks 17th globally when it comes to digital manufacturing. We’re excited to be empowering German companies with a digital platform that allows them to compete with the biggest players in the industry.

Companies such as Audi, ABB, NASA and German Orbital already use the Protolabs Network platform for both prototyping and end-part production, leading the charge in digital manufacturing. With Protolabs Network, engineers can get an instant quote, significantly reduce lead times, and gain access to a virtually unlimited manufacturing capacity.

Speakers from Siemens, Deutsche Bahn, and more shared their innovations in manufacturing at our launch event

Our launch event at the MotionLab.Berlin with over 100 attendees from the DACH region, including senior figures from Siemens and Deutsche Bahn, made the expansion official.
