Functional prototypes and end-use parts from laser sintered nylon
It's the perfect all-rounder: easy design rules, strong and slightly flexible. Nylon allows for functional end products and complex designs. Its surface is a bit grainy, but it can be polished for a smooth finish.
Nylon prints are laser sintered on industrial 3D printers. The technology gives you a high degree of form freedom and you can even print moving parts in one go.
For embossed and engraved details, we recommend a minimum line thickness of 0.5 mm and a depth of 0.5 mm.
Tip: if you are putting text on your design, use a bold sans-serif font for readability, such as Arial Bold.
As SLS Nylon is built up from powder, all the cavities in your design will be filled with powder. It’s a good idea to hollow your model to save costs and add some holes for the powder to escape.
Tip: having multiple holes makes it easier for the powder to escape, as we can carefully blow air through you model.
Selective Laser Sintering is one of the 3D Printing processes with the highest accuracy; up to 0.2mm is enough to create clearly visible details.
Tip: if you are putting text on your design, use a bold sans-serif font for readability, such as Arial Bold.
The minimum feature size for printing with SLS Nylon is 1 mm. If your feature is a thin wire connected on both sides, you can go slightly thinner to 0.8 mm, otherwise we recommend at least 1 mm thickness.
A powerful feature of SLS Nylon is that you can have moving parts printed in one go. In order for the parts to come loose you need to keep a 0.5 mm clearance.
Tip: if you have moving parts like axles or hinges over a long distance you need to increase your clearance or create extra escape holes for the powder to get out.
SLS Nylon is printed by fusing together Nylon powder with a laser. The powder acts as support material while building up your print, therefore no support structure is needed, providing you with maximum form freedom.
The 3D model's wall must be thick enough to support the model. We recommend with working with 1.0mm for larger objects, in smaller objects you can have lower wall thickness of 0.8 mm.
