What is the best type of file for 3D printing? (CAD, Solidworks etc.)

Stl files are (in most cases) required to 3d print a model. Most CAD programs allow you to export stl files by selecting one or multiple objects. Otherwise “obj” files work too. If you have special requirements, like multiple color printing then there are a few varieties to that. Either you have to export each color as individual stl/obj files (most likely used for dual color FFF/FDM printing) or you need something totally different, if you aim for full color prints. I’ve not yet had any experience with the later so you’d be best off asking the hub about what files are required. Aside from the file type there are different requirements to make a model printable, those differ for each printing method. Do you have a certain model to get printed? If so I’d be happy to take a look at it. Just click on the icon below this comment to get to my hub if you have any other questions. Cheers, Marius Breuer
