I’m extruding my own filament for use in a 3D printer. Has anyone had any luck with trouble shooting filament diameter that is coming out very small?

The distance between the extruder and the spooler is causing issues with stretching out the filament. I’ve tried using copper wire to guide it and lessen the effects of the stretching, but I’m still getting filament diameter around 0.9 where I want it at 1.75 mm.

What type of system are you using to extrude your filament?

Perhaps you are extruding too fast or at too low a temperature.

I’m using a filabot extruder with temperatures at 179C for PLA and a relatively low extrusion/drive speed. I have attempted to increase the extrusion temperature, but this make the filament even thinner. I’ll try altering the extrusion rate.
