The Crownstone is a chip that can switch and dim devices/lamps based on your presence (using Bluetooth Low-Energy). It has fancy device detection on-board that raises smartphone alerts when someone rings the doorbell, unplugs the television at night, or when your fridge breaks down!

The cool thing about it is that it is the first open-source power outlet as such. You can start hacking on the firmware, write your own smartphone app, etc. And it also functions as an iBeacon! If you want to experiment with iBeacons for indoor localization, you have them now without batteries!

The Crownstones are not only open-source they are also open hardware. This means 3D models!! You can already play around with the different 3D models with Alex’s account on sketchfab:

Of course, full 3D models will become available for you to print your own, as soon as the project’s successful.
