My CTC 3D printers been great for the past 3 weeks since I got it however as of yesterday I can not longer print from it :frowning:

During a print the printer will either completely lock up or it will reboot.

I can re produce this behavior by using the JOG mode in the printers menu.

If I JOG the Y axis up and down a few times it will start to do very minor stutters as it moves and then if I continue to JOG it for a few more seconds the printer will do one of the following.

- Lock up completely requiring a hard reboot

- Reboot on its own

- Display “Platform Failure!” (rare) and lock up

I have performed the following troubleshooting while awaiting a response from the seller and have found no change with my printers fault.

- Switched the X and Y steppe modules with the A and B extruders

- Switched the Y axis Steppe motor with Left Extruders

- Re routed some of the steppe control wires away from the motherboard a little

- Re loaded the firmware

I really don’t know what else I could try other than being sent a replacement Motherboard. The printer is only a few weeks old!

Any help would be much appreciated! I really need this printer back up and running!

I would check your end stop cables. They are a known issue with this style printer. Unplug them and do your jogging to see if they are the culprit.

I really hope this is the cause as the end stops look quite cheap and easy to replace.

I did notice the other night one of my end stops was slightly bent preventing it triggering. I think the head slammed into it…which I fixed by bending it back into the correct place. Perhaps there was more damage than I originally thought.

I will post my findings in a few hours!

I am happy to report I have fixed the problem!

I tried the JOG with the end stop module cable disconnected and I was not getting crashing however I was still getting slight stutters on the Y axis. I then “brushed past” the X axis Steppe motor cable (one of the cable which MOVES with the printer heads axis moments) while still in JOG mode and the X axis stuttered slightly!

This was when I realised the fault was with this steppe motor cable. I connected this cable to the Y axis steppe motor and found that the issue followed the cable to this other steppe motor.

I made up a new cable using new (thicker) wire and the existing connectors (since I did no have new connectors to use) and everything has been working perfectly since!

I am very grateful for your post. I had the same issue and came across this post. Within minutes I had found the problem. Faulty stepper wire on the x axis. Replaced it and issue solved.

i used a proper mesh loom to fix it after replacing the cables
