Hi Everyone,

Im thinking about purchasing a Projet 660 soon for full color prints.

I was wondering if it is a good time to buy one now, or if I should wait for a new update to come out. I haven’t seen anything in the news, but I’m a bit concerned since it’s big investment for me.

What do you guys think?

thanks

Hi Steven, where are you from?

It is a relatively old printer, but in full color 3D printing it is still the best. No one was able to create a better full color 3D Printer (including 3D systems).

Projet 4500 was designed as an update, but it wasn’t good enough. Projet 660 pro is still in production. Projet 660 pro started as Zprinter 650.

Hi,

Well, there is at least 3 more full-color printers that are better or similar in quality than Projet 660 - first is Stratasys J750 (and older versions) it’s not only full color but multi-material as well. Second is - Mcor full-color 3D printer, which is very similar to Projet in terms of quality but less messy I say. And Third is 3DPandoras which is much cheaper than Projet but I’m not sure about the quality.

And of course, new HP MJF which looks like is the most advanced (plastic) 3D printer with capabilities of full color and multi material printing - in voxels precision.

In my opinion, Projet is an old technology, I see 2 ways for this, new materials development or it will be replaced by other technologies.

I would say it’s risky to buy Projet660 right now maybe 3DPandoras is a better choice for that (I don’t know).

Yeah, It’s a good choice. We purchased this one a year ago.
ProJet 4500 is a full-color plastic. It’s a bad choice because materials very expensive, slow customer support and he can’t print dark colors, only mixing CMY (Models printed by ProJet 460 have a same issue)

Hi @Steven_51 what’s your background with 3D printing? We could probably give you better advice if we knew more about you, what you do and what you’re looking to achieve with a full colour printer. (For example, the advice given to a rich 17 year old who’s never printed before is going to be very different to the advice given to an established professional printer who wants to expand the business).

HP MJF more expensive then ProJet, and it is the good multi-material solution if you need in this option

Is HP MJF already on the market? What is the price?

Around 145 K

Hi Steven,

we are an Italian Service for 3D Printing and we have a ProJet 660 Pro in our Lab. I geuss that this 3D Printer is the best solution for architectural, concept and aesthetical model. We have many customers in this fields.

We are also 3D Systems Authorized partner and at the moment we don’t heard anything about new version in CJP solutions. What would you do exactly with this solution?

Thanks

Francesco

Hi Steven,

We are a 3D Systems Silver Partner in NYC. We love our ProJet 660. Are you in the area? would you like to check out the printer in person?

It’s fast, colorful and environmentally friendly. There is no waste material as all support powder is reused.
Regarding the best time to buy, I do not know of a new version or upgraded model.

Hi @cobnut

I’m looking for a 3D printer for work, we are an architecture / engineering company, we want to print presentation models in full color. I’ve looked around for a full color printer for a while. Projet 660’s quality looks okay, but feels like the quality of print hasn’t improved much in the past years (a bit washed out), and something better is around the corner. Do you know if there are better full color printers out there?

Thanks Roger,

Are you a distributor in the new york city region?

Hi @Francesco

We are looking to print full color presentation architecture models, you haven’t heard of anything new coming out? We are a bit unsure about the projet 660 because color’s feels a bit washed out, and feel like something new is coming out soon.

Thanks @kevrat

what do you guys use the printer for?

thanks Mindaugas.

I guess they’ve hit a bottle neck with the powder material

I agree with you, the technology feels a bit outdated, thats why I feel like something new should be coming out soon.

have you had any experience using the HP MJF?

we are looking to print full color architectural models with good detail.

interesting, do you remember how old the Projet 660 is? came out in 2015?

Hi @Printplaats im in NYC

what are your thoughts on your Projet 660?

Steven,

Replied to you on reddit, under mobius1ace5 I own a 650 which is basically a 660, we should really talk about your needs before you buy one, there are so many things a reseller wont tell you that can screw you.

The new HP MultiJet printers are amazing and fast. We have 2 (so far - more ordered). They are a little pricey, though. Stay away from the Rova4D. It’s a neat idea, but needs some work. The color mixing doesn’t work as well as it should (because it doesn’t purge a color when done with it, it tends to bleed into surrounding areas).

If you can afford the HP, I would say to go that way.
