Hi huys,

I have sliced an STL file using S3D (I even did a repair through Netfab), but there seems to be an issue with the text which is on the top.

Kind find attached a screenshot of the sliced preview in S3D, and a screenshot of what it actually should look like.

How can I fix this? How come the “Brand” part is not even showing up?

Any help appreciated!

Hello @3DBazaar,

This might be due to the letter lines being smaller then the nozzle width. If that occurs the slicer cant show it since its too small for the nozzle to print it and therefore will not print.

Hi there,

I have changed the extrusion width from 0.4mm to 0.15mm…lets see if this works…it may or may not…will keep you updated…

funny thing is that i printed the piece also through makerbot makerware and the text is showing up just fine…weird!

thanks again!

If you change the extrusion width from 0,4mm to 0,15mm without changing the nozzle you will run into all sorts of troubles !!

Your printer needs to know exactly what nozzle he’s working with and the actual nozzle size the printer reffers to is usually 1,2x the one of the nozzle bore diameter. The printer interpretates the nozzle as being a bit bigger hence when printing the printed line will (due to gravitiy and the force of extruding downwards) be about 1,2x thicker then the nozzle size.

If you select such a small extrusion width the printers nozzle will run around the same area multiple times to fill in the hole as it thinks that it’s working with a smaller nozzle.

I would try to buy smaller nozzles and additionally you should change the 3d models letter size to at least 0,4mm while 0,8mm and thicker would be much better.

If thicker letters don’t fulfill your need you might want to look into engraving machines or services.

as Marius mentioned, changing it to 0.15 wont actually print well if you dont change the nozzle, but its a good way of determining if thats the reason why it wont slice, then you can go back and fix the file
