Iāve proposed something like this already a long time ago.
Or find a group of enthusiasts and developers to create our own (Iām happy enough to setup a project for this as PM, but Iām not a developer myself)
Iām interested in either option
As someone who is also in a country that isnāt even mentioned, and does not have the resources to move with 3D hubs, I concur.
I have issues with them using us to get their platform to this level, and then essentially kicking us in the teeth by going, weāre now too big for you, thanks and good luck.
The blog post system wonāt work locally where I am, as the people here donāt bother to look, so I will be taking my service elsewhere.
I am personally quite disgusted to be used like this.

Why donāt we all band together and create our own platform to support the non commercial customer? We are all over the world and I bet there are enough of us to cover it. How about we all create an eBay store and go that route? In fact, letās do it today. Who is in?

Ok if not eBay, how about this, we all stand up an ecommerce site, starting out as plain vanilla offering print services world wide and go from there. I also know there are other specialized āstoresā elsewhere (AstroPrintās for example among others).
Agreed the quality control on ebay would be an issue, we need someone who is reasonably good with creating a commercial type site to set something up. Then weād need to advertise to get the name out there again.
Iāll be watching that one closely, very similar to the original 3D hubs, and using Facebook is a bonus, as it solves a lot of the marketing issues.
Not sure why they didnāt propose that to us, one of the reasons Iām so unimpressed with them. Like I said earlier, itās like they used us to get there and then just go cool, we donāt want the little guy that built our business anymore.

It seems the ājoinā page is disabled for now

Otherwise, if there are any developers between the printers ā¦ we can do our own.
Most challenging will be the pre-processing of the STL or OBJ file uploaded by the customer to determine price, quality, etcā¦
Iām meeting with some devs later this month
Excellent idea, but sadly my coding skills are embedded in nature, little to no web experience, and @OLCE is right, the tricky bit will be the calculation from the STL/OBJ file to get costing etc. Maybe see if we can reverse engineer from Slicer or Cura.
Agreed, although I rarely charge private clients for that unless they make me change their design/do a new design for them. Have to get back to work now, but will watch this thread closely and respond when able to.

Iām also not a developer, but Iām an IT Consultant, Project Manager, so if we make a project out of thisā¦ I can play.
I also can do platform admin and moderation where needed.
If anyone is interested, I can setup a system this week, where everyone can start listing wishes, features, ā¦ etcā¦

I think we have an idea here and maybe we should take this convo onto another, free platform and take it from there. We can do a G+ or some such.
Donāt worry. We are already creating that platform to cater all of your needs. its under development, just give us 1 more month. Stay tuned for 3DJunction. Coming soon!

Ok, stay tuned where? What should we monitor or subscribe to?

It sounds like something is in the offingā¦but hangouts works if there are a few of us. After that it becomes a giant con-call. We need a discussion areaā¦

Iāve a project slack for this type of discussions also, easier to organize.
Interested people, can you please email your contact details to designocare@gmail.com. I will stay in touch with you all. As soon as we are done with the product development, we can get you onboard.
Thanks!
