This is a really incredible design, and a very smart way to incorporate the headphone cable as the trigger cable too. (In reading the comments I am surprised at how many people are still unaware that the iPhone has that feature.)

He definitely deserves the award he received from Pinshape for Top Functional Design too.

All that being said, I can’t find a single hub that will print this thing for $30… Have a customer that is upset with me and doesn’t understand why my price to print it is not $30…

So, who is willing to print it for $30?

This thing? The $30 3D scanner V7 updates by daveyclk - Thingiverse

I can see why it’s priced over $30. Are you including shipping cost in there? we need more info like:

QTY

Minimum walls thickness

Minimum Infill

Maximum resolution

Hubs will break even on something this complex priced that low.

Although I’m willing to give it a try if you’re close enough and shipping cost isn’t ridiculous.

Take a look at my shop (https://www.3dhubs.com/service/AlltechM) for a quote or PM me direct and we can work something out.

Cheers,

Pierre M.

Thanks Pierre, I’m in Thailand, I’m sure you couldn’t even get it to me for that price, and Customs would make me pay at least that much to get it out of lockup too, so it would quickly become the $100+ iPhone Scanner

At the recommended print settings he lists on Thingiverse and on Hackster, it is basically the default Netfabb settings that 3D Hubs is using.

At a 200micron layer height and 20% infill, in just material alone it’s going to be over $30, or really close to the mark. But checking around I don’t see any estimates even close to that. Worldwide most are somewhere $150-$300.

For giggles I checked Shapeways and Sculpteo LOL! Unbelievable.

Haha shapeways…good old days :). If I were you I’d look at the cheapest 3DHUB quote near you. then directly contact the hub. Good luck though.

Looking at the model, $30.00 does not seem like too much to pay for the print.

No, no, not at all. I think you missed my point. $30 is not too much to pay, it is not enough.

My point is that the name itself seems to be arbitrarily picked at random to make it sound good.

By the way, loading up the files, your hub quoted $99+ at the default (recommended) settings.

Thanks JMO_Tech.

I am impressed.

You are by far the lowest quote I have seen, not sure how you are doing that.

That being said, even your quote at default (recommended) settings comes in at $47, I could be wrong but I suspect you would be printing at a loss too.

That is my point. This award winning design is very cool, but also very inappropriately named.

LOL, “cheapest 3DHUB quote near you”…

That would be me.

I’m just discussing the disconnect between the naming of the model and the reality of it’s actual cost.

You are right, I did miss your point. My humblest apologies and thank you for correcting me.

I thought you were indicating the price was too high @ $30.

I did not load it up, just looked at the picture…

My prices are some of the lowest around… so if it came in at 99$ then you are right, the item is not aptly named.

@BoozeKashi If you really need the parts printed I can lower the pricing for you. We usually don’t do that but I am willing to do it for you.

No sir, but thank you, not asking for that at all. I do appreciate the offer though. Shipping alone would be more than $30.

If I somehow posted this as an order, I hope a mod can delete it or move it. I thought I was posting this as a discussion in Talk section.

I have my own Hub and we could print it too. I had a customer inquire about it and they were surprised when I said the price of material alone does not align with the name of the design.

I am truly impressed that you were by far the lowest quote I have seen though, and I have checked quite a few, all over the world. You must be running a hyper-efficient shop or getting extremely insane good deals on filament!

Thanks, no you did not post it as an order I just wanted to help you if you need it. Thanks.
