Hey Community Friends,

Just a quick heads-up that we’ve teamed up with SketchUp and Flashforge 3D printers to launch the Make It Functional Design Competition for showcasing your functional 3D printed designs.

So what’s a functional 3D printed design? To put it simply, we are looking for 3D printed designs that somehow make our everyday lives easier or more interesting as actual products. Some great examples that we’ve seen in the past include desk organization systems, self-watering planters and even headphones.

Through October 25th, anybody can upload their designs for the chance to win one of many prizes including a Flashforge 3D printer, a SketchUp Pro license and even 3D Hubs credit for having their design 3D printed. Additionally, we’ll also be offering a $10 3D Hubs print voucher to everybody who participates.

Ultimately, the competition is an opportunity for us to recognize your design talent and hopefully inspire you to create some entirely new kinds of designs.

Prize Details:

1st Place**:** A Flashforge Dreamer 3D Printer and a SketchUp Pro License

2nd Place**:** A Flashforge Finder 3D Printer

3rd-10th Place**:** A 3D print of your final design from 3D Hubs

How to Enter:

  1. Upload your file directly to the SketchUp 3D Warehouse before October 25, 2015.
  2. Once uploaded, the “I want this to be 3D printable” button should be checked.
  3. Tag the model with #sketchup3dhubs.

Entries will be judged on innovation, usefulness and printability with regard to their use as everyday objects. Only contest entries that are submitted by the October 25, 2015 deadline will be eligible for the prizes and the $10 3D Hubs print voucher. To find out more information check out this forum post on the competition over at SketchUp.

Awesome!

Awesome contest topic!

Cool!

How many designs can we submit for this contest?

I think that the more functional designs are downloadable on the internet the better!

This is the first time I’ve heard of SketchUp’s “3D Warehouse”, does this mean we have to use SketchUp to design the objects?

The accepted files on 3D Warehouse are SketchUp Exports. Check out SketchUp Make its free to use and works well.

May we use another persons desine but give them credit?

Great concept!

Cool contest! So I noticed that entering requires you to like another entry. Does the amount of likes determine the winner?

I have submitted my model to the Sketchup Warehouse and tagged it with #Sketchup3DHubs and checked the ‘I want this to be 3D printable’ box but it still has not showed up in the collection. What else do I need to do?

Hey Mercury, we encourage liking others designs as its good for engaging with the community. The winner will be decided by SketchUp and Flashforge and 3D Hubs based on the criteria above. Thanks

Hi Dan, a community manager from SketchUp will move it across for you within 24 hours. I’ll double check with them now. Thanks

Not to be rude but it has been more than 48 hours sense I have submitted my model on the Sketchup Werehouse and it has not been added to the collection yet. Does the model have to be in the collection to be counted if would you please make sure the the sketchup team gets the models moved.

Hi Dan, i’ll shoot them a mail now. Could you send the link to the model on 3D warehouse just so I can be sure they find it?

This the link to the model on the 3D Werehouse

Thanks so much .

Thanks Dan looks like there’s 68 entries but 85 designs tagged up. Have emailed their marketing manager and community manager for assistance. Great entry

Thank you for the complement and for helping me get my model submitted.
