When I bought Zortrax M200 I was hoping to print with Z-GLASS. Unfortunately my 2 attempts finished with clogged printer. First it was my fault - I used hotend v1. After some time when I replaced hotend for v2 I decided to try again with the same result. My re-seler is now cleaning the printer. I got information that it is a common problem and it will probably happen again if I will try to use Z-GLASS. So I would like to ask for your experience with this filament.

Is this common problem or my printer is just broken?

Does warranty covers that ? Should I demand replacement of printer if problem will remain?

Hello,

To be honest, it is causing problems but with V1 Hotend, while using V2, there shouldnā€™t be any. There is a possibility that Teflon tube inside hotend gone lose and that could be it. However, it is covered by warranty so you can get back to us through Support Form (Support form - Zortrax) so we can make it right.

Z-Glass prints best with the V2 hotend and always on ā€˜Highā€™ speed. Be sure that your extruder-gear, nozzle and hotend are clean. And what Marcin says is also a possibility.

Has anyone tried the plated heads from Micro Swiss made for the Zortrax?

The nozzle showing in the link looks badly made. Why do you want an alternative? For carbonfibre? (sorry, this is maybe better for a new topic)

Just to remind you, using that kind of nozzle affects on losing warranty, instantly.

Iā€™ve only printed twice with Z-Glass so far. First print was fine, second print failed, but it wasnā€™t a clogging issue. Iā€™m attempting the second model right now.

I have the same problem but not only with the z-glass, but with the zpetg too. The prints from zultrat, hips and pcabs are perfect. I use the machine v04 with the v2 hotend. At first I have tried to clean the noozle, the hotend and the extruder about 10 times, but the results were always the same. The extruder clogs and the prints failed. Than Iā€™ve tried to change the hotend to a new one (the orignal one was 3 weeks old :). Nothing has been changed. After that I have changed the extruder cable, than the extruder motor, have no effect. In my opinion that isnā€™t a harware problem. What do you think? Do you have any idea?

Did you print at high speed? This prints better for these materials. Another potential problem is dust in the air or from the surroundings. Be sure that the machine and spool are clean from any dust or dirt.

Thank you for the fast reply.

I did print on normal speed, because my first print (about 8 hours) with zglass was completely ok. After that I printed about 4-5 parts with z-petg, than started the malfunction. The office, where I use the printer is almost dust free.
So according to your advice Iā€™ll try to print on high speed, than I will let you know the resultsā€¦

But just a question. If the high speed option is better for glass and petg, why the normal speed the default setting for these materials?

Personally i donā€™t get the ā€˜normalā€™ speed. I always print at high speed and i see no big quality difference. With the PET-family filaments itā€™s better to print at high speed to prevent material jams.

If you keep having problems, check the PTFE tube inside the hotend. The filament can get in between the hotend and the PTFE-tube.

Iā€™ve tried to print z-glass on high speed. Unfortunately it isnā€™t works, because the material jamsā€¦

According to your advice Iā€™ve checked the tube inside the hotend, but the new hotend was [surprisingly  ] completely clean.

So, as I mentioned, Iā€™ve checked and changed the hardware, and I donā€™t know what else can I doā€¦

Can you use acetone to finish the Z glass prints? I have heard that you can use acetone to make it more transparent and smooth.

Soā€¦ After printing several hundred parts using the Original Zortrax nozzle and the Micro Swiss nozzle. I can honestly say I believe the Micro Swiss nozzles produce better looking parts and need far less cleaning.

The company is in the USA: Plated Wear Resistant Nozzle for Afinia H479, H480, Up Plus 2, Zortrax ā€” Micro Swiss Online Store

The quality of the nozzle is superiorā€¦ in my opinion. The stray filament does not stick to the outsize of the nozzle as easily resulting in far less fuzzy prints.

Donā€™t get me wrongā€¦ I am not saying there is any problem with the original Zortrax nozzle. Itā€™s just that the ABS tends to stick to brass a lot more and require far more frequent cleaning. The hard nickel plating on the Micro Swiss nozzle is very ā€œslickā€ so the ABS does not tend to stick.

I would suggest Marcin order a few and try them before automatically criticizing the product. Itā€™s been working very well on my M-200 under daily printing use. (P.S. LOVE my M-200!)

Doesnā€™t work for Z-Glass and PET(G). Only for Z-ABS and Z-Ultrat.

I have the same problem with Z-Glass, even when loading a material I hear clicking sound from extruder and didnā€™t print anything yet. I have V2 hot-end and it looks like there is no enough temperature to melt Z-Glass. When I choos Heat-up nozzle from Maintenance menu first before loading a filament it goes much smoothly than when I Unload and then load a material. Any thoughts? I have cleaned nozzle recently
