Hi I have a K8400 and I have my z hop set to 0.2 but I watch the z rod and see that it only works on the first layer, Does anybody know why this is and how I can fix it?

In my experience, z hop is more trouble than it’s worth on Cartesian printers. It works really well on my Delta printers, but my velleman doesn’t return to it’s original Z position with every hop. The resultant prints were “squished” with a vertical compression of 25-35% over a 3 inch model.

It seems with any trapezoidal-drive z-axis this is a problem. The only way I have got it to work reliably is to slow it way down (I’d say no more than 25mm/s)

For your problem you might want to check the “minimal extrusion before retracting” - if you haven’t extruded beyond this threshold it will skip the retraction util the condition is met.

Also, most slicers don’t retract when transitioning between supports (which sucks, as this is precisely where I want it in most cases). Cura won’t trigger retractions between layers as well.

Hope this helps, and good luck!!
