3mm Filament Modification for Wanhao i3 Duplicator V2.1

Are there modifications I can make to the Wanhao i3 (such as replacing the extruder/hot end) to allow printing with 3mm filaments? Can anyone give specific 3mm components they know to run reliably with the Wanhao i3 please?

p.s. This is because I have a large amount of unused 3mm filament I would like to make use of.

you would have to go Microswiss all metal hot end and drill out the arm at the top; but that will weaken it so go with a microswiss replacement Aluminum arm for that also. Make sure you get the parts for the 3mm filament. You will also need to readjust your steps per mm for the extruder in the printer system menu.

Thankyou for the reply, could you clarify on a few bits please.

I am familiar with the microswiss all-metal, I have it running nicely on an i3 currently, when you say the 'arm' which part of the microswiss hot-end are you referring to? There are 3 pieces (Slotted i3 Cooling block, MK10 Thermal Barrier Tube, MK10 Nozzle), or do you mean the extruder arm that filament feeds through?.

What do you mean then by the 'parts' for the 3mm filament?

The spring loaded arm the filament first dress through. “Parts” for 3mm just means all the current parts are drilled for 1.75mm and all need to be replaced to allow passage of the thicker 3mm (2.85) filament. Once you have the 3mm parts in, don’t try and run 1.75mm as the molten plastic will try and push upwards past the incoming filament (path of least resistance) and will clog your 3mm setup.
