Hi there, I am new to the community, and 3D printing in general.

I would like to request a miniature character for creation. More specifically, a large tabletop gaming miniature, for use with games like D&D. I want it to have about a 2.25 inch, round diameter base (as opposed to square, in the pictures I will be attaching) and about 4.5 inches in height.

I found exactly what I want online, but it was not created for commercial use. Images are attached below.

I give my sincerest thanks to anyone willing to help me! I am unsure if I need an artist to make me a 3D image or not, yet, but I want to be prepared and have someone if I need it.

Here is what I am looking for:

Almost exactly this, but with a slightly spikier tail would be awesome!

Thanks a ton!

You should look for someone, that can scan the figure, then he could remove the sqare base and add a round one, that would be the easiest way. I guess paying a professional 3d designer will be extremly expensive, and you need a professional designer to get such a quality 3d model.

Depending on what scanner you find it might even be possible to get the model in color, then you could look for a hub, that prints full color and there you go.

Anyways scanning will be the way to go, to save you a lot of time and cost. If you own such figure in person you can try out a software by autodesk, to which you upload a bunch of photos of your model and the software generates a 3d model from it. The calculations are very complex so this service is could based and (as far as I know) free.

If I remember correctly it’s called 123D or 123Catch or 123D Catch, anything like that.

Alternatively you can search for hubs with a scanner, or use the kinnect sensor of your xBox for 3d scanning, but I don’t know, how precise the kinnect one is, since this is a fairly small figure.

Good luck,

Marius

I would love to do this, but… the problem is, I found a post about this figurine that someone had 3D printed online. They didn’t have a file download, or a purchasable copy. It was just the one, used by some gamer in France :frowning:

I’d be happy to have a go at doing the 3D version for you. Would be relatively simple to adapt one of the originals if you could find one or better still make a new one. Here are the things I’ve been making that I’m also discussing elsewhere on here as I need the printer guys to replicate my ‘real’ pieces.

I could have a go at designing in Sculptris for you as well if you like - that’s a free online 3D modelling program.

just to chime in a bit on this conversation thread; you could hire a digital artist/sculptor to create this for you but it could take 3-4 days and possibly up to a week to get the details and intricacies like the original post; unless they had some prior artwork to start as a base from - not to mention that this will be a higher cost and fee for that level of professional design work…

It sounds like however with the options you are looking for it could be easier to work with someone to mashup existing 3D models from source work online and recreate this model to match the existing images you provided. Using zBrush, Sculptris and/or Meshmixer one could achieve the results you are looking for… using creative commons/open source models it could work out that you find something that matches the figure/pose - as long as you were not planning on commercial application of use and the license fits you can probably achieve what you are looking to do.

Taking a look on Thingiverse it looks like these models could work as a base from which you build out the final sculpt; Triceratops complete by Jeremycon - Thingiverse

Take a look at some of the work from Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects and Thingiverse - Digital Designs for Physical Objects and you can get an idea of what I’m talking about…

It would be a fun exercise to get a hold of a midlevel 3D scanner and scan someone in the posed position so you can use that as a source model for your figure… although depending on the resolution of the 3D scanner some post work would probably have to be done to get the detail down.
