Someone asked me if I could find this character and print it and painted for him. After some search I got to find the original model of Thresh from the game I guess, because it was unposed and the mesh was clean but not closed. It took me hours and hours to pose the body and weapons in Zbrush, to separate some of the pieces like the lamp and the shoulder plates and to finally get a light mesh as nice as possible to print.

In the end it took me over 16 hours to print (just the body), my longest piece so far! And then I decided I had to paint it to finish the job. I didn’t use the acetone vapour technique this time to smooth the print, but the XTC coat, just to try (I discovered it dries out faster than I expected). But good, and then white acrylic primer and the paint, applied by brush. Finally I added black marker to highlight the details (I think it defines the shapes better, make the character look more cartoonish). And some glossy vernish as the final coat.

I uploaded the model to Trinpy (4 downloads free per month), in case you want to have one, though I warn you it is quite a complex print: https://www.trinpy.com/models/championship-thresh-lol/

Hope you like it!

Hi Lucika! What a cool project and it’s looking great!

Thanks for sharing your technique on how to prepare the model for painting!

I don’t think you mentioned the printer you used but can I assume that you used your Zortrax?

Yes you can
