Very good quality but a bit expensive.

Since introducing the SmartExtruder+ the whole experience has been improved. Now with the PLA Tough option it is incredible!

The Replicator 5th gen, originally plagued by it's first Smart Extruder performance/ longevity, has been able to pick itself back up and dust itself off with the release of the new Smart Extruder+. In our experience, the Smart Extruder+ solved nearly any complaint we've had with the 5th generation Replicator, making it into the printer it was intended to be. The release of the newest Makerbot Print software as of October 2016, also brings all new features to even the 5th gen models as well, including native CAD file import and automatic CAD assembly plating.

Like like it but can't say I love it by any means. At times the machine will produce amazing prints and then the next go around I have warping issues or failures. It's my "coin toss" option as far as reliability. However, when it does deside to work properly it does produce a very good quality print.

People need to understand FDM printing technology first and then judging the print quality. Makerbot Replicator 5th Gen has a great printing quality and like any other FDM 3d printer it needs to be maintained and calibrated well. Comparing to other brands, Makerbot Replicator 5th Gen has more consistent quality on long runs. I have worked with over 20 printers this model with almost 40K hours of printing. After all the updates by the manufacturer, they are working like champions.

The latest Smart Extruder + has solved all of my past problems with filament jamming and leveling issues. It's worked flawlessly since upgrading.

The MakerBot Replicator 5th Generation 3D printer is a great entry-level 3D printer for those looking to add additive manufacturing to their current business or personal space. It is very easy to set up and use, and extremely reliable with the adjustments MakerBot has made with the 5th Generation printers. The output is also of very high quality, printing at up to 100 microns resolution.

A good printer with a few flaws. Easy to use. It's strength lies in the community and software.

the Makerbot 5th gen is the work horse of our lab. we have 6 other printer and only the Z18 surpasses the 5th gen in speed and quality.

After the company acquisition by Stratasys, I have received several firmware updates. The machine seems to run faster. Great for education, entry into 3D printing, rapid model and small replacement parts for household consumer plastic goods.
